Top Democrat Stuns With Recall Election Endorsement

Gloria Romero, the former Democrat Majority Leader for the California State Senate, has stunned the nation by endorsing GOP gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder over incumbent Democrat Gavin Newsom in a recent campaign video.

In the video, Romero declares that public schools of California “need big change,” while also announced that she was previously “the majority leader of Democrats in the state Senate.”

Romero proclaimed that she is a strong advocate of charter schools and school choice, and she also notes that Elder shares her beliefs.

However, “not Gavin Newsom,” Romero asserted, adding that Newsom shut down public schools across the state “while he sent his kids to private schools.”

Romero also noted that while she is a Democrat, the recall of Newsom does not pertain to partisanship matters; instead, it pertains to Newsom himself.

“Larry Elder for governor,” Romero asserted as the campaign video concluded.

Romero previously served as the Democrat majority leader in the state Senate from 2007 until 2008, though she eventually stepped down in order to become the chairman of the Education Committee.

Currently, Elder is the leader amongst a large pack of Republican gubernatorial candidates aiming to replace Newsom in the September 14 recall election.

This recall election emerges in the wake of harsh criticisms regarding Newsom’s abysmal handling of COVID, including last November when he was spotted dining indoors at a high-end restaurant, with nary a mask in sight. On top of that, Newsom was also surrounded by individuals who were not from his household.

Elder pointed out this hypocrisy, observing that Newsom was “sitting with the very same lobbyists and medical professionals who drafted the mandates they were violating by not wearing masks and by not socially distancing,” noting that such behavior constituted brazen “hypocrisy.”

Elder, who is a conservative radio show host, has also campaigned against vaccine and mask mandates across the state, and he has heavily criticized Newsom for harming multiple businesses with draconian COVID policies last year.

Elder proclaimed that he will defeat Newsom in the recall election of September 14, noting that the current California governor has “shut down the state in the most severe way than any of the other 49 governors have.”

Elder also noted that he will eliminate any remaining mask and COVID mandates when be becomes governor.

“Then I’ll break for breakfast,” Elder quipped.
