Biden Approval Nosedives Into The New Year

According to data released by a CIVIQS rolling job approval survey released this week, the approval rating for President Joe Biden has reached a stunning new low in the new year, clocking in at just 35 percent.

The results of the poll emerge as the Biden administration and various Democrat leaders have continued pushing for the passage of the president’s massive $1.7T Build Back Better (BBB) bill. The enormous legislation is currently stalled in the Senate due to strong opposition from moderate Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV).

Furthermore, the poll results also indicate that 56 percent of respondents strongly disapprove of Biden’s performance approximately one year into his first term as president. The results of the poll are also highly partisan, indicating that 73 percent of Democrats approve of Biden’s job performance whereas 96 percent of Republicans disapprove of Biden’s job performance.

However, only three states exhibit a higher approval rating, rather than disapproval rating, for Biden’s job performance. For instance, Vermont demonstrates a 49 percent approval as opposed to a 39 percent approval rating; Massachusetts demonstrates a 48 percent approval rating relative to a 39 percent approval rating; and Hawaii demonstrates a 49 percent approval rating relative to a 42 percent approval rating.

CIVIQS reveals that approval rating for Biden began declining shortly before the delta variant became the main coronavirus strain in the United States during the summer. Moreover, the subsequent withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Taliban’s unprecedented capture of Kabul further exacerbated the decline in Biden’s approval ratings.

In other polls, Biden has also received poor ratings due to sky-high inflation, an ongoing supply chain crisis, and a steady stream of illegal migrants crossing into the United States through an increasingly porous border.

CIVIQS conducted its rolling approval average between January 20, 2021 and January 4, 2022, resulting in a total of 147,731 responses.

In December, Biden’s disapproval soared to a new high based on the results of a CNBC-Change Research poll. The 56 percent disapproval rating was largely attributed to the Biden administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the economy.
